Happy Thaipusam

It is a difficult time for the faithful, regardless of race or religion. Over the years, I have always made it a point to attend the Thaipusam procession. A couple of vids from last year has kept the event fresh in my head. Even so, the general experience for every religious community has been the same over the major part of the last 12 months - scaling down, prohibitions etc. All part of the nation’s collective effort to fight the spread of COVID-19.

More than a month ago, the AHTC HR manager notified me to block off a date/time slot in February for the customary “Lo Hei” with Town Council Property Officers and staff. At the Town Council Chairman’s meeting this week, arising from official government directives, even the Lo Hei is off this year.

As a people, we’ll just have to adapt and keep our spirits up, knowing that all of us have each other’s backs in this country, regardless of race or religion.

To my dear Tamil friends, a blessed Thaipusam to you and your loved ones.
